Denise I. McLean and Nicole P. Gotlin
Ten years ago Denise McLean was a struggling single mom like any other. Her son Alex was a born entertainer who loved to perform. Denise encouraged her son and watched as he developed real talent and an overwhelming drive to perform. Then Denise made the biggest decision of her life: she decided to go for broke, to devote her energies to supporting her son’s dream. The result was a roller coaster ride that changed her life completely. Alex
McLean became AJ of the Backstreet Boys, and the Backstreet Boys became one of
the most successful bands in the history of music. At first it was a dream come
true. The band toured the world, met with huge success, and broke sales records.
Denise was an integral part of the Backstreet Boys from the very beginning,
traveling with the band, and serving as the band’s publicist and fan club
coordinator. The
dream, however, turned sour. AJ’s stage persona as the tattooed "bad
boy" of the group began to merge with the Alex she knew and loved. Her
relationship with her son grew increasingly difficult. Denise watched helplessly
as AJ descended into alcoholism and depression. But AJ found the strength to fight back against his addiction. He entered rehab and emerged sober. Today, he is working with the Backstreet Boys on their next album, launching his solo career, getting married, and devoting himself to charity work as “Johnny No Name.” The struggle against addiction is never fully ends, as AJ knows well. But he is on the path to recovery. And Denise’s Alex has returned to her. Backstreet Mom is for every mother whose child dreams of a becoming a performer and for every mother struggling the difficulties of their child’s teenage years. It’s a heartfelt and moving story about a mother who comes to understand the limits of celebrity, the price of fame, and the power of love.

David Gerrold
The fleet was unprepared for the Morthan onslaught. The attack was led by the virtually indestructible warship Dragon Lord, a ship of a scale and power never envisioned by human designers. The Morthans rapidly destroyed the human fleet, and began chasing down survivors…
So begins the legendary Star Wolf trilogy, which includes two classic works, The Voyage of the Star Wolf and Middle of Nowhere, and the never before published Blood and Fire.
The popular Star Wolf series has been acclaimed by critics. According to Publisher's weekly, the "story moves along at the speed of light." Analog says that "the adventure's there, the action moves along nicely, and the villain is as nasty as anyone could wish." Booklist declares that "Gerrold elevates his story line above standard battle-driven fare by focusing on the intense war of wits between the Star Wolf's fully dimensional human crew and its unique alien adversary. He produces intelligent and entertaining hard SF that remains blessedly free of the militaristic stereotypes rampant in other examples of the subgenre."
