What We're About

Publishing is a hectic business, but at BenBella we try to keep front and center four basic principles that are important to us:

Publish with passion - We only publish books that we care passionately about, books that are exciting, fun or profound. We'd rather publish fewer books than publish anything we aren't crazy about. But we aren’t snobs. Just because a book is intelligent doesn't mean it can't also be fun.

Authors are people too (often very nice people) - Publishing starts and ends with authors and we go out of our way to remember that. We strive for full, on-going and prompt communication with our authors. If they ask, we’re happy to get authors involved in all aspect of their book, from interior design to marketing.

If you print them, you'd better sell them - Very few publishers got into the business to be marketers (which explains a lot, when you think about it). Nevertheless, marketing is absolutely fundamental to a publisher's success. We're not embarrassed to say that we love marketing as much as we love books, and that we go at it with enthusiasm, creativity and expertise. We recognize the critical role authors play in marketing their books as well, and we work closely with our authors to maximize the results of our mutual efforts.

Despite being new, we’ve already had some great marketing successes. Our books and authors have received hundreds of placements, including The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, PW, LA Times, BBC, Discover, Good Morning America, Fox, Sharon Osborne, Premiere, SciFi, Chicago Tribune and Oprah. (Yes, Oprah!)

Try something new - We're big believers in creativity, whether it be in author relationships, concept, design, marketing strategy or operations. Publishing is an industry that's ripe for innovation and we'd like to do more than our share in exploring new approaches and trying new ideas. We are very big on finding win-wins with authors.
