Grandparents, this one’s for you!

In the realm of child-rearing literature, it’s a parent-centric world. That’s not to say that the dozens of parenting guides available to parents-to-be aren’t incredibly valuable, but until now there has been a real lack of attention paid to the tremendously important relationship between a grandparent and their grandchild, particularly in the crucial first year of a child’s life.

Author Cheryl Harbour’s new book, Good to Grand: Making the Most of Your Grandchild’s First Year, is the perfect resource for grandparents-to-be. Most grandparents don’t need the hundreds of pages of advice and information offered in most traditional parenting books, having been parents themselves; moreover, most parenting books don’t recognize the unique bond shared between grandparents and their grandchildren. In Harbour’s own words, Good to Grand “combines personal anecdotes with factual information about recent developments in medicine, childcare, and parenting techniques…Each chapter provides facts about what has changed about childcare in the past years, what has remained the same, and how grandparents can make the most of their time with their grandchild.” Good to Grand will benefit an enormous demographic: in 2010, there were 65 million grandmothers and grandfathers in the world. By 2020, there are projected to be 80 million grandparents; that’s one in three adults!

With a foreword from one of the most famous grandmothers of our time, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Good to Grand promises to be the go-to grandparent book for generations to come.

Good to Grand: Making the Most of Your Grandchild’s First Year will be published in April 2016, and I look forward to its release!
