Job Title: Marketing Manager
Pay: Full-time, salaried, in $60-65K range
Benefits: Benefits include health insurance paid by the company and dental and vision insurance at a modest charge per paycheck. We also have an IRA-matching program and life and disability coverage. You would start with 10 days of paid vacation time and 10 days of paid sick time. You would be eligible for a 5-day vacation increase once when you reach your third year with BenBella and again once you reach your seventh year.

Position description & essential functions of the position:

To support BenBella Books’ business imprint, Matt Holt Books, in all marketing capacities, including:

  • Develop and execute a marketing plan for each of ~20 business titles per year, in collaboration with the editorial and author teams
  • Work closely with authors to execute the marketing plan
  • Responsible for writing media pitches and communicating with all marketing contacts
  • Media research, spreadsheet management, proofing, and other various marketing-related tasks

Desired qualities:

Candidates should have book marketing experience and business book marketing experience a significant plus. Should be extremely organized, reliable, self-driven, have a strong work-ethic, and exhibit strong writing skills.

Senior Editor, Matt Holt Books Imprint


Salary: $45K-$55K

Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced editor and project manager to join our newly created Matt Holt Books business imprint.

Responsibilities include:

  • Broad management of ~20 titles annually.
  • Developmental, substantive, and line-editing of manuscripts.
  • Managing freelance editors and copyeditors as needed.
  • Drafting sales copy and handling metadata.
  • Coordination with BenBella’s production, art, sales, and marketing departments.

BenBella is a virtual company, so the successful candidate will work from home and have some degree of flexibility in their schedule.

This is a non-acquisitions position.

Desired Skills and Interests

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 2-5 years’ experience in nonfiction trade publishing, passion for business titles a plus.
  • Strong editorial skills, and editorial flexibility in response to the diverse needs and expectations of various projects and authors.
  • Strong author relationship skills.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple ongoing titles.

The candidate should also enjoy working both independently and in collaboration with others, and be self-motivated in a remote office setup.

Production Editor


Location: Remote, US

Salary: $45,000–$48,000

Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, IRA

Status: Full Time (Exempt)

The Production Editor will report to the Deputy Production Manager and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Managing production editing of a select number of front list titles and reprints
  • Prepping manuscripts for design and composition
  • Mastering page proof corrections
  • Communicating with authors and editors on production deadlines and interior proof reviews
  • Coordinating with typesetters, proofreaders, indexers, and other outside vendors for titles
  • Coordinating domestic and international printing schedules and quotes
  • Handling copyright applications
  • Other support tasks as necessary

Candidates will be given a proofreading test to assess attention to detail and overall grasp of grammar and language rules.

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • 2–3 years relevant work experience
  • Strong grasp of CMS, Adobe Acrobat comment tools
  • Familiarity with InDesign a plus, but not a requirement
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and consistently reliable
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to work effectively in both team-oriented and independent roles
  • Ability to learn new tasks and systems quickly
  • Strong communication skills

Book Cover Designer


Salary: $55K-$60K

Job Duration: Full Time (Exempt)

Job Location: Anywhere in the US

Job Description

Designing approximately 30 covers per year for BenBella and its imprints. The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years non-fiction trade book cover design experience with a strong individual portfolio showcasing original and innovative designs; versatile use of photography, illustration, color, and typography; and a sensitivity to target audiences.

The designer must be able to work on their own and/or in collaboration with the art director, editorial team, and production team and be sensitive to the marketing interests of BenBella and its distributor and authors. As an independent publisher, we pride ourselves on partnering closely with authors in all departments, including design, as this leads to more author investment in the success of the final book.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a strong working knowledge of industry trends and best practices.
  • Participating in design and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Producing a twice-yearly catalog promoting BenBella’s titles.
  • Conducting research on available photography, art, and illustration for covers.
  • Commissioning custom photography, illustration, and hand-lettering as needed.
  • Potentially designing full book interiors for our Smart Pop line, including 4/c and design-heavy layouts. This would include a closer partnership with the editorial team and freelance illustrators.

Desired Skills and Interests

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Minimum 4-6 years trade book cover design experience. Non-fiction cover experience, particularly with business and science titles, is strongly preferred.
  • Expert proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines for multiple ongoing projects.
  • Dependable, hardworking, and self-motivated in a remote office setup.
  • Strong author-facing verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience packaging and prepping files for commercial print production.
  • Experience creating and/or commissioning custom photography, illustration, and hand-lettering.
  • Experience with photo-editing and compositing a plus.
  • Experience typesetting book or magazine interiors a plus.
